DOI: 10.1177/0014524605055220 The sermon as a work of artUniversity of Pretoria, South Africa In this article, the author looks at how the concept of the sermon as an open work of art offers a theoretical basis for preaching as a dynamic-communicative event. Relevant perspectives from a variety of art forms are employed to argue that evoking a life-enhancing religious response is the ultimate objective of the homiletical process.
