The Church at the Centre of the City

Paul Ballard

Cardiff

The Church has always been in the city centre. At this time this means having to adjust to the latest process of rapid renovation that is overtaking the central business district of many of the older industrial cities and towns. The city centre has always been the hub of power and commerce. It is now also the focus for consumerism and leisure in the twenty-four hour city. Yet little or no attention has been given to debate this challenge to the Church’s ministry and mission. This is briefly described and discussed theologically and some models for ministry are offered.
