Truth and Meaning: Preaching the Gospel from a Church in Conflict

Lorraine Cavanagh

Anglican Chaplain to Cardiff University

The insecurity felt by many Anglicans in the wake of the recent Anglican conflict requires that preachers respond prophetically to the innate spiritual hunger of their listeners. The preached word becomes an instrument of transformation as it promotes a dynamic understanding of the truth of scripture. The prophetic task is one of connecting with the life experience and understanding of those who listen so as to make ‘meaning’ from the truth and convey hope for the future.
